Personal Statement:
As a clinical psychologist, I actively engage with my clients in a compassionate way that flows from formal training seasoned by many years of clinical experience, offering a facilitating environment for fostering flexible insights and strategies for facing a wide range of potential challenges. Some of my clients have symptoms such as anxiety and depression, others have difficulties in relationships, and many report an overload of life stresses, perhaps in the context of life transitions and challenges. I work flexibly from different frameworks for evidence-based therapy, including CBT, mindfulness-informed cognitive therapy, and psychodynamic therapies. I also offer therapies for enhancing trust and attunement for couples. Persons who have experienced loss, who are making difficult decisions, or who are seeking support as they navigate stressful life circumstances are often able to benefit from these approaches.
Qualifications:
After completing a Ph.D. from the University of Toronto, I gained clinical experience by working as a psychologist in larger mental health settings in the Toronto area before launching my own private practice in Waterloo in 1992, offering assessments, consultation, and treatment. Some common conditions that we frequently see in this practice include acute and chronic stress, anxiety disorders, depression, OCD, and ADHD. Please note that at this time I no longer offer formal psychological assessment services but continue to enjoy my ongoing work with individuals and couples.
Certifications, Memberships, Accreditations:
Registered Psychologist, Certificate #1582, College of Psychologists of Ontario.
Member of Canadian Psychological Association.
Areas of Special Interest:
I am deeply interested in the intersection of modern psychology with meditative practices that go back thousands of years. I am also interested in other spiritual practices that share the common goals of reducing suffering and enhancing resilience, insightfulness, and life wisdom. To this end, I have pursued my own meditative practice for decades now, and have hosted and led a weekly meditation group for advanced meditators for the past 12 years. I continue to study a range of tools and techniques associated with meditation, attending retreats as often as possible to refresh my own practice.
